Perched on the banks of the River Derwent with one of Hobart’s most stunning waterfront outlooks, the Derwent Sailing Squadron clubhouse is just a short walk from Salamanca, the city centre, Wrest Point, and the University of Tasmania. While we’re proudly a boating club, the clubhouse is so much more, a welcoming space for everyone to enjoy, whether you’re here to sail, socialise, or simply take in the view.
Our restaurant and bar are open to members, guests, and the public, offering a relaxed and friendly atmosphere where great food, drinks, and conversation are always on the menu.
The dining room is open Tuesday to Friday for lunch and dinner. On Tuesdays we serve a special Chef's Pick Menu, and from Wednesday to Friday you'll find our fresh and seasonal bistro-style menu that highlights local ingredients. From favourites like steak, fish and chips, and hearty soups to vegetarian and gluten-free options, there's something to suit every taste. In the hours between lunch and dinner service, a light bar menu is also available, perfect for afternoon drinks and a bite to eat.
The bar is open from midday Tuesday to Saturday, with a wide selection of local and imported beers, Tasmanian wines, spirits, non-alcoholic drinks, and fresh coffee always available. Whether you’re winding down after sailing or catching up with friends, it’s the perfect spot to relax.
During the warmer months, our waterfront lawn becomes a vibrant gathering place. With picnic tables and shade umbrellas, it’s ideal for casual dining, barbecues, and long afternoons by the water, a favourite for members and visitors alike.
Inside, the clubhouse features cosy lounge areas, the Trophy Room, and a members’ library, offering a quiet place to read, chat, or enjoy a coffee with the river just outside the window.
Whether you’ve come off the water or just dropped in for a meal or a drink, you don’t need to be a sailor to feel welcome. At the Squadron, we’re as much about community as we are about boats, and the clubhouse is where it all comes together.
