The beauty of sailing is that however much a sailor already knows, they never stop learning. The Derwent Sailing Squadron (DSS) is proud to be home to SailTrain, a training centre of excellence that is accredited by both the Royal Yachting Association (RYA) and Australian Sailing (AS). SailTrain also offers the MAST Motor Boat Licence Course in Hobart with a full list of courses below.
A year-round calendar of courses is run by the training centre’s highly experienced and credentialed team of instructors, with the aim of helping the student attain qualifications that will make them a better sailor. All instructors are qualified through RYA or AS, and place an equal importance on the safety and comfort of the student and enjoyment of the course, all to create a perfect environment in which to learn.
Come along to the club on a Discover Sailing Day for your first ever taste of sailing. Simply wear some warm clothes and sturdy non-marking shoes, bring a bottle of water and sunscreen, and you are ready to go.
An experienced instructor will look after the rest, including providing you with a lifejacket, gloves, wet weather gear and training materials. Skippers are always looking for new enthusiastic crew, so you can be assured of a warm welcome.
Contact the Club to find out when the next Discover Sailing Day is being hosted at the DSS.
