Overnight, in the Netherlands, the ARES racing team, skippered by Will Sargent, have won the 2023 SB20 World Championship, rising to the top after 5 days of hard, top-class racing.
They have beaten previous world champions, hardened professionals and class stalwarts.
Commodore Nick Connor said this morning "their win is outstanding, but even more remarkable given they are a youth team. On behalf of everyone at the Squadron, I extend congratulations to the young Squadron crew - Skipper Will Sargent, Paige Caldecoat, Eddie Reid and Eirini Marios".
To win a World Championship is no easy task and the Squadron also extends it congratulations to the amazing junior sailing club - Sandy Bay Sailing Club - whose contribution to this team's junior development cannot be understated. Make sailing fun and about the many and everything else will follow - this is proven time and again.
A big shout out to the mums and dads of the team - you are World Champions as well!
